As many of you know, Amanda Bennett directs a small project for young women in Rwanda through our organization, Pure & Faultless. The Rwanda project supports young women who have been traumatized through sexual assault. Currently, we serve five young women, four of whom have a young child. We also serve a young child who was abandoned and then adopted. In 2021, we are planning on adding five more women. More on that soon! We provide social support, financial support for basic needs, job training, and education, depending on the circumstances. The four young mothers have become friends and support each other in their sewing jobs. We have provided sewing machines to help them earn income. We are so proud of what these ladies have accomplished and the goals they have set for their families.
Some of you have heard about or met Agnes. Agnes was Amanda's inspiration for starting this program. She wrote about her in her book, and Agnes continues to amaze us all with her independence, faith in Jesus, and devotion to her son, Fabrice. Agnes recently became engaged to be married to a young man who has agreed to legally adopt Fabrice as his son. It’s such a beautiful story, and we are so proud of them.
Two years ago, Amanda had a vision of purchasing a small plot of land and a home for Agnes. Having property provides security in many ways - security from abusive landlords, a place to grow food, and financial security when hard times hit (like Covid - when no one could work for many months). To that end, Amanda is raising money to buy a small home for Agnes as a wedding gift in early 2021. A small home with a bit of land will cost about $5000-6000 USD.
